Lips Like Sugar

Lips like the Rolling Stones Lips

Thee Optimist is taking a little break from his genocide fascination today, and is posting about recent artworks by the artiste Otto Von Miller, who is also Thee Optimist.

Thee Optimist has numerous personas and aliases, for whatever reason.  It's nice not to be yourself all the time.

In any event, Otto Von Miller made the above painting on a small canvas.  He did it partly because when he was a child, the Rolling Stones were popular, and the Rolling Stones lips and tongue logo was everywhere.

Otto Von Miller's art is very much a return to a childhood passion of his - drawing - four decades later.

Otto also scanned the painting, and then used the free online art program Canva to alter the color, and blow out what you might call the texture of the painting.

Which gave him this:

It also gave him this:

Lips Gone Cold and Dead, digital art, 2024 Otto Von Miller.

And even this:

Lips Like Warhol, digital art, 2024 Otto Von Miller.

That last one is somewhat of an homage to the numerous images of Marilyn Monroe that Andy Warhol did in the early 1960s, soon after Monroe's death.

Warhol used a painstaking process of painting the canvases various colors before silk-screening Monroe on top of them.

Otto Von Miller just, eh... zapped his painting with laser beams.

What's fun about all this is, if you enjoy these images, you can easily wear them on your body (or put them on the body of someone else, preferably someone you like).

For example, one version of Lips Like Sugar has become Kiss Me Now, a t-shirt available on Etsy (you can click the image to go to the listing):

If you prefer the Warhol effect, you can try a Bubblegum Sugar Lips crop-top, also on Etsy:

Why are we here on Earth, if not to buy stuff?

Buying stuff makes you happy.  Buying Otto Von Miller pop art makes you super-happy.

The truth is, if you enjoyed Andy Warhol (and who didn't in that long ago era before you were even born?), you're going to enjoy Otto Von Miller too.  The kid is making art that people love.

Words of Wisdom

"Don't think about making art, just get it done.  Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.  While they are deciding, make even more art."

- Andy Warhol
